Research Interests:

I am currently spending my sabbatical working at a startup called Fluent Mobile. Own an iPhone?  Install our app!

I work primarily in the areas of power management and mobile sensing.  We have built a number of systems for tracking wildlife, such as mongooses, tortoises, and turtles.  In support of our research on Disruption Tolerant Networking, we have built a large-scale outdoor testbed, called DOME.  This includes a wireless Mesh Network in downtown Amherst, MA.  We have also built a number of systems for saving energy in laptops and embedded sensors using a technique called Hierarchical Power Management (HPM).  We have also conducted studies in battery usage in mobile devices with a system called Llama.  We have developed a number of systems for locating objects using passive RFID tags.
